Today was a bit more of a challenging day. We started out by planning under the pavilion as Travis started sanding work with Will by the tables. As this happened, Charles split us up into a larger group that would be moving materials and furniture from one shipping container to elsewhere. We worked on moving all the boxes into the largest shipping container as Dr Coy and Dr Creasy neatly packed the boxes into the shipping container in the most organized way possible. We stopped for lunch; where we enjoyed some of Mrs Jordan’s delectable brownies and examines our sunburns. After lunch, we worked on moving furniture from the shipping boxes and were able to wrap it up from there.
Today was a good early start as we had breakfast and John gave the devotional. We headed to work and quickly learned how to use the sanders to smoothen down the tables. Our guide, Will made a clear demonstration and we all seemed to catch on pretty fast. The group split up at some point later on in the afternoon and we went down with Charles to get some tools in which we would use later. We later went down to the RVs to wash them down with soap, then spray with the water gun. As we worked, we kept ourselves entertained by stomping over Ant Hills and spraying them with the hose. Today was a very productive day and we enjoyed learning new things.
Today was the first day of GO Week. We started out by serving at the Caritas Foundation, where we served breakfast to the homeless and helped out in the kitchen. Afterwards, we hopped in the bus and headed down to Community First, where I was blown away by it’s modern and tidy architecture. We were given a tour, and introduced to our main guide for work, Will, a formerly homeless man who describes Community First as his home and family.
