What an amazing finish to a week dedicated toward serving others! The victory lap was a beautiful display of love and support for the Benson family. Our hearts are full as we head into spring break!
Today 3rd grade led chapel and taught us all about the Fruits of the Spirit. They did an amazing job! Our kids then participated in a cultural fair with 3rd and 5th grade. Our 4th graders designed beautiful Ukrainian Easter eggs called Pysankas. 5th grade taught us how to make a woven basket from Rwanda. 3rd grade taught us how to make a beautiful Christmas lantern called a Parol. We learned a lot! Tomorrow we will end our week with a Fun Run at Camp Mabry!
Today we led the elementary chapel. We sang “Oh Happy Day” and presented facts about Ukraine. We then took vans over to the Quarries Campus and put together 400 pinwheels for Hyde Park Church. These will be distributed with a devotion to families with young children as a way to spend time together. Our hearts are full!
Today we began with a special Go Week Chapel led by 5th grade. We then walked over to AGE of Central Texas to sing Patriotic songs for our senior friends. We enjoyed a coloring activity with them, and the kids really enjoyed talking to them. The joy on their faces said it all! We had a visit from Happy Birthday Foster and Children’s Program which provides children in foster care a birthday box on their special day. Lastly, we donated our food items that we have been collecting over the past few weeks to the Hyde Park Food Pantry. What a difference we made today!
4th grade was busy learning all about Ukraine today. The kids were put into groups, and each had to research a certain topic about Ukraine. We are learning a lot and will share some highlights with 3rd and 5th grade later in the week. The kids also had a visit from the Austin Diaper Bank as well as Austin Dog Alliance to learn more about what each of these organizations does to help others. We are looking forward to day 2!
Back in October, our 4th graders collected over 30 heavy winter coats, and dozens of hats, scarves and gloves to send with the high school students traveling to Ukraine for Go Week. The winters are quite cold! The high school team is partnering with Last Bell Ministries, and will be serving there during Go Week. Our 4th graders also wrote the students at the orphanage (in our best Ukrainian writing) letters, and we are hopeful they will write us back. We look forward to hearing what these students will be doing over in Ukraine, and we hope to maybe even have a Skype call with them!
