Fun Run and Done!

This morning we prayed for the Rwanda team (and all the other teams) before heading over to Camp Mabry for the Fun Run Victory Lap in support of the Beyond Batten Foundation. It was a great finish to a busy week.  Please pray that God will move in the hearts of the students (and everyone else!) to seize every opportunity to serve others. Happy Spring Break!!!!

Rwanda/5th Grade 3/14: Cultural Craft Rotation and Special Visitor

Day 4 started off with a great chapel led by 3rd grade.  Students also had the opportunity to rotate between the 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade classrooms to make a craft associated with each classes Go Week country.  Students visiting 5th grade engaged in Rwandan basket-weaving. We are excited for this afternoon when a parent is coming to tell us about a recent trip to Africa.

Rwanda/5th Grade 3/13/19: Food Bank and Campus Cleanup

We had another busy day! It all started with a trip to the Central Texas Food Bank where we helped packaged food to be delivered to those in need.  Students performed a variety of tasks and gave their best effort.  We served from 9 to noon. Thanks to all the parents who came to help! Back at HP, we helped the facilities team by going on a “trash walk” through the parking garage.  It definitely looked better when we were done! 🙂 We also checked in on the Rwanda team to see what they’ve been up to and were happy to see that their trip has been going well so far. God is good!

Rwanda/5th Grade 3/12/19: Day 2 Continued . . .

The fifth grade class was able to help out the Hyde Park Facilities team today. We sorted candles for Christmas Eve (and even sang Silent Night!) and washed several exterior windows downstairs.  Some of the CDC children inside the rooms started washing their side of the window as we washed the outside, which was really cute. A representative from Happy Birthdays came and shared about their organization and how we can help.  Later, we’ll be helping the facilities team again and dropping off donations at the Hyde Park Food Pantry across the street. It’s been a full day, and we aren’t done yet! 🙂

Rwanda/5th Grade 3/12/19: Chapel and Ronald McDonald House

Day 2 is underway! The students presented an excellent chapel this morning, including dancers, scripture readers, prayer leaders, fact presenters, and a dancing banana! We are proud of our students for stepping up and leading! They also learned about the Ronald McDonald House and how they help people.  More to come for today . . . stay tuned!

Rwanda/5th Grade 3/11/19: Dogs, Diapers, and Day 1 Details

Fifth grade students learned about two local ministries today: Austin Dog Alliance and Austin Diaper bank. It is our hope that the students will be inspired by the work being done by these organizations and want to actively participate themselves. Students also began making Rwanda slide shows on chrome books. Tomorrow is the 5th grade-led chapel, so we prepared by singing, reading Bible verses, praying, and rehearsing the chapel program. Please join us tomorrow at 8:05 in the Blue Chapel!
