The San Antonio group returned to the Baca Senior Citizen Center for their last day of serving this week. They helped move a large pantry and other kitchen items so the center can prepare to remodel the kitchen. Before arriving at the Baca Center they enjoyed breakfast at the famous Round Rock Doughnuts. We really enjoyed our week serving the Round Rock area.
The San Antonio group spent the day picking up trash with the Round Rock Parks and Recreation Department. As you can see in the pictures, they collected two trailers of trash and learned how to use the cool trash tongs. After all their hard work, they enjoyed some free time at Old Settlers Park riding the zip line and other activities. We look forward to going to the Baca Center tomorrow and see our new friends.
The San Antonio group returned to the Allen R. Baca Senior Citizen Center and began their day by writing letters to some of the heroes that keep us safe from the military, police and fire departments.
They assisted the Crafty Critter group making mats for the homeless. One group flattened plastic bags to prepare them to be cut into strips. Another group tied the strips together to make a long chain to be rolled into a large ball which is used as yarn to crochet the mats. Once the mats are completed they are taken to a shelter to be distributed to the homeless to help protect them from the elements.
Several students helped in the dining hall by washing dishes, cleaning tables and visiting friends they made yesterday. We had a great day and looking forward to tomorrow.
The San Antonio group worked at the Allen R. Baca Senior Citizen Center in Round Rock. The group served lunch to the members and assisted in kitchen. The senior citizens really enjoyed visiting with the students and learning about Hyde Park.
The group also packed containers and wrapped silverware to help prepare for the Meals on Wheels deliveries tomorrow.
To help keep the members healthy, the students disinfected many areas of the building including the workout room, door knobs, dining hall and common area.
With Easter quickly approaching they helped clean and stuff two large containers of eggs for the annual Flashlight Easter Egg Hunt in Round Rock.
We look forward to going back tomorrow to see all our new friends and to help the Crafty Critters make mats for the homeless.
